How toxins + diet impact our collagen production

Collagen naturally decreases with age. That's why collagen supplements have become all the rage in efforts to combat that. But age isn't the only factor in collagen decline - poor diet and toxin exposure lead to the breakdown of collagen formation.

1- Glyphosate (Roundup, weed killer, herbicide) breaks down collagen and damages/degrades the collagen matrix. That makes collagen less structurally sound, which can lead to more frequent injury & osteoarthritis.

2 - Highly processed foods & those high in carbohydrates and sugar can cause significant collagen damage by cross-linking the collagen. This leads to hardening and fragmentation of collagen which promotes premature aging.

3 - Stress triggers the release of cortisol causing the production of collagen to decrease. Cortisol stimulates the degradation of collagen to free up amino acids for energy.

4 - Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen in the tissues, lessening the chance of regeneration of collagen.

5 - UV rays can penetrate deep into the dermis and damage collagen fibers.

If you want to maximize the effectiveness of your collagen supplement, these risk factors need to be addressed.
