My biggest pet peeve...

My biggest pet peeve is when I'm in a social situation surrounded by food that's not allowed in my household... and another parent tries to check me for not allowing my kids to indulge. We're an active family and stay pretty social so this comes up quite a bit. This pic is a great depiction of why we do a hard pass on this "food". Definition of a drug according to Wikipedia: A drug is any substance that, when inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed, absorbed via a patch on the skin, or dissolved under the tongue causes a temporary physiological (and often psychological) change in the body. GMO's, pesticides, artificial colors, high fructose corn syrup, titanium dioxide, seed oils, sugar, gluten and the 60+ hormones in conventional dairy are DRUGS. Most are carcinogenic and are linked to ADHD, asthma, behavior issues, brain fog, weight gain, diabetes, heavy metal toxicity, high cholesterol & so much more. Our society has nutrition so backwards. Comments like "Let them be kids," "Your kids are thin, what are you worried about," and "They will burn it off." show how we think in a silo. A healthy weight is extremely important for kids as that's when their bodies are learning to metabolize and develop the number of fat cells they'll have as adults. But nutrition extends way beyond weight - every bite we take is either healing or harming us. And I want my kids to remain strong athletes with robust immune systems with the ability to focus and perform well in school without the help of meds like so many of their classmates. There's no downside to developing healthy habits early. So to my crunchy mamas out there who get me.... next time someone checks you at the next BBQ, share this post! Photo cred Dr Jess
